Why Grains are bad news....

Important!

I just read an extremely good, short, succinct response to the USDA's dietary advice for Americans.

Here are some snippets:

There are 3 primary deleterious effects of grain intake.
1. Persistently raised levels of insulin and resultant insulin, hyperinsulinemia and onset of Syndrome X (aka metabolic syndrome) and eventual Type 2 Diabetes

2. Phytate inhibition of mineral absorption and Lectin
damage/subsequent auto-immune dysfunction.

3. The condemnation of fat and cholesterol as the causes of heart
disease have led to the increased consumption of carbohydrates (primarily in
the form of market-driven grains). This furthers an already problematic
imbalance of N-3/N-6 fatty acid and its resultant inflammation (now highly
recognized as one of the leading indicators of heart disease).
My point is this: humans have not effectively evolved to eat grains and
thrive.

There is more. Read it, internalize, tell your friends. We must get the word out to stop the misinformation.

I don't quite know what to think of this article, seems like he's throwing the baby out with the bath water...

Everything I've read to date has said that plant proteins are better for you than animal proteins, but he is pretty much saying the opposite.

Also he seems to reject all grains on the basis of the grains that we commonily eat. There are many types of grain in the world, yet we only comsume very few of them.

Andy - I think the article highlights the issues with modern processing of grains...

Those that have Insulin based challenges (belly fat) are those who need this message most.

I've read that animal proteins are superior to plant sources... I think we need a geek night of research :-)
