Die ...t

Each week those I train with, and myself included, face different dilemas and challenges. Eating choices pop up quite regularly. So here's what I'm thinking>

The first three words of diet... DIE.. and people wonder why it doesn't work.

The idea of dieting is, in my opinion, very little to do with food but really our perception about how food contributes to our lives both positively and negatively.

Food can be a fuel, pleasure, a social occasion, a comfort, an uplift or a down low. Everybody has different associations with their food each day.

For some its part of the day where you get a chance to sit with the family at the table or others a fuel stop during a long cold night shift... Just ask Sara bout that one!

So what are your attitudes towards food? How do you perceive nutrition playing a role in a successful and full life?

Not sure? Here's an exercise for you-

Finish this sentence- Food is....(place your own words here) and repeat until you have at least 3 different answers.
You'll soon discover all sorts of feelings about food you may not have consciously been aware of.

For me... Food is fuel, food is comfort, food is sharing and spending time with loved ones, and food is sometimes excess. Especially if is full of sugar, 'white man's food'.

With mans' obsession of removing nutrients from food in order to store them for longer and make more money we've lost sight of the wood for the trees.

The processes of Bleaching and the removal of nutrients in grains to make white flour for example leaves nothing but empty calories, raising blood sugars only to make you crash and become hungry again.

I read about the Harlem food selection last week... "If it's White it ain't right!" and God's choice"If he didn't make it, don't eat it"

These simple thoughts relate back to eating as much natural and unprocessed food as possible. And it is possible. Despite what the current fast food Ad says...

And don't get me started on channel three's "The truth about Food" because the truth is it leaves a lot to be desired. Great to raise awareness about looking at what's in your food, but how much are the food companies paying to put there over processed foods in your show for advertising?!

Comparing levels of Fibre in processed cereal foods... Ironic don't you think? What about eating natural foods like... vegetables? Missing the point sums up the program :-( Check Spelling

Still, better to raise awareness badly than not at all... or is it? You decide!
